If you've been eyeing a 360 camera, the rumor mill just got loud. The Insta360 X6 — the successor to the wildly popular X5 — quietly cleared FCC certification in the United States on July 3, 2026, following earlier regulatory approvals in China, the UAE, and India back in March. In camera-industry language, that means one thing: launch is close. Most watchers expect an official announcement between late August and September.

What the leaks are telling us

Nothing is official until Insta360 says so, but the leaks so far paint a consistent — and exciting — picture:

  • A noticeably smaller body. The X6 is reportedly shorter and more compact than the X5, with the touchscreen moved directly beneath the rear lens and new cooling vents built in.
  • 8K video at 50fps. That's a big jump from the X5's 8K30. Higher frame rates mean silkier motion and real slow-motion flexibility — roughly 2x slow-mo when mastering at 24fps.
  • A possible 1-inch sensor for better low-light performance and color depth, with improved HDR support also rumored.
  • European pricing leaked around €689, which suggests US pricing in the familiar flagship range.

The same dual-fisheye, capture-everything-reframe-later design that made the X series famous isn't going anywhere. This is a refinement of a proven formula, not a reinvention.

Should you wait — or shoot now?

Here's the honest answer: if you have trips, rides, or projects planned this summer, waiting means missing the footage. The current Insta360 lineup in our store — including the X4 with its stunning 8K 360° capture — remains one of the best creative tools money can buy, and every accessory and workflow you build now carries straight over to the X series' future.

And when the X6 does land, you'll hear it here first — we'll have availability details as soon as they exist.

The bottom line

FCC clearance + retail-ready marketing images + leaked pricing = a launch that's weeks away, not months. Whether you grab the proven X4 today or hold out for the X6, one thing's certain: 360 capture is having its biggest year ever, and it's a great time to be a creator.
